The Content or the LMS? Which Comes First?

Without content the LMS is an empty cookie jar. Before EITHER the content or LMS is considered, it is important to step back and think: Who am I providing this content for and why do they need it? If you cannot answer either of those questions, then neither content NOR an LMS will help you provide successful educational material. Once you have a clear direction, understanding what type of content will be most relevant will help you select an LMS. You need both.

Questions to Ask Client References Before Selecting Your LMS

Selecting an LMS can be a very involved process. Once you have narrowed the list of vendors that seem to fit your needs, watched demos to see the Learning Management System functionality, and narrowed the field, then comes the reference checking. Is there an integration with an Association Management System? Has the reference been through a version upgrade of the LMS software? Your IT infrastructure will change, or you may add more LMS administrators.

So, when an LMS provider say they have a SaaS LMS, they’re really saying we offer a cloud LMS. Because you aren’t purchasing hardware and hiring IT support staff to go along with your software solution, your up-front costs are lower than they would be if you simply purchased an LMS that was not hosted elsewhere.
