When you need a fix, then the LMS vendor must work with you either remote to solve it or if it is big nasty fix, go on site. SaaS and LMS vendors. Even with slideshare, you can actually post e-books and other documents, so it follows suit in a system. I mean ever&# , from a senior executive at a mid to large size vendor that has been in the market for several years. Across the board, a large number of vendors (from small to large) saw increases in their quarter numbers. Especially, when vendors released their 2010 final numbers and saw big increases from the previous year. A trend that is happening in the LMS market more so than in the other e-learning markets, is the failure to follow their path of success.

ASTDTK14 zoomed into Vegas last week with about 60 vendors (est.) On the expo side, and I know ASTD Events are going to disagree with me (err, they already have via Linkedin), I wasn’t overly impressed on the number of vendors’ booths. Authoring tools vendors – pickings were slim, Adobe was present, so was Allen Interactions (Zebra Zapps), but no Articulate? Mobile specific tools or m-learning spin tools – were not as extensive as I was expecting.

I often hear people say they want mobile learning in their solution, social learning, e-commerce, but when you ask for specifics they sometimes have a blank stare on their face. If you want an EE, you will want e-commerce. What about a payment gateway – does the LMS vendor assist you with this or do you have to find your own? Because those who were fortunate to attend the World of Learning Conference, everywhere they looked was a nugget of gold, especially those who used the dynamite technique of e-learning. While I am sure that occurred at WOLC, the ones I gazed at, which were presented by vendors, had no sales pitch whatsoever, rather it was all about a specific subject tied to e-learning. Heck, one vendor I know even landed a massive deal right there at the show.
