Stephen Downes picked up my post on Facebook As a Learning Platform. He commented: To be clear, I do not think that Facebook itself is really a learning environment. Something like the social network operating system , maybe. All of that said, Facebook is surprising me in terms of how well it works as a platform.

Not surprising, the terms most closely associated with Adoption are Adoption of Social Software and Adoption of Enterprise 2.0. There are some great resources on this such as: Ten tips for choosing & using social software Adoption of Web 2.0 But the same report tells us: Social software is not a trend that can be ignored.

Now I saw this post in the Adaptive Path blog like a week or two ago; " The Shelf Life of Social Networks." " The post seems to be asking about why there seems to be a rise and fall to social networks and should we worry about that or just go along with it.

Yammer (internal twittering) is almost impossible to explain to someone who has no experience with any social networking (and probably not with anything more than email lists). As a side note, I think selling Twitter/Yammer is harder than selling social bookmarking and wikis. Twitter/Yammer is something new.

I used to struggle to create my content network, whether I was writing a paper in school or looking for news. Now I’m overloaded with blogs, news sites, social networks and all kinds of email. If you ask Diigo , social bookmarking is the future. But today, our brains are in a state of constant cognitive overload.
