ASTD Webcast On New Mobile Learning Research

Regular readers of this blog will be aware that we recently supported ASTD research on Mobile Learning , a report around that was released in May 2012. ASTD conducted a free webinar on that research report this week.

Sharing time with newby L&D people, helping contacts with building their networks and SoMe presence and as you all know, recently I was asked to conduct a webinar with Rick Blunt (@rblunt81 on twitter ) and the DC Chapter of ASTD on Social Media Tools for Learning. ASTD International Conference Day 1 Wrap-Up

eLearning 24-7

Welcome one and all to the wrap up of the ASTD international conference and expo. You can track number of times people open it, use it and even add folks to it. Why hasn’t ASTD figured out how to do things right. Once again, ASTD dropped the ball. Apparently there must be a huge demand for scalping ASTD badges or hood winking ASTD for access into their show. If I could give ASTD a grade it would be a massive F.

Analysis of ASTD International Conference and Expo 2013

It’s the yearly review of the ASTD International Conference and Expo. First off, this part is going to sound like I’m bashing ASTD, and perhaps to a degree I am. If you were a volunteer to ASTD, this is not about you – it is solely about ASTD. ASTD bags – always nice. It would seem to me that in order to push a lead towards a potential sale is to offer a special ASTD International show discount. You can track courses? EXTRA!

Design Day and the ASTD Big Question for July

Kapp Notes

Around the same time, the ASTD Learning Circuits Blog had the July "Big Question" which was "Choosing Tools" which is actually a series of questions: How does the eLearning design process need to change to accommodate such a wide variety of tools? For example, you can leverage audio (MP3) for modeling the pronunciation of certain words as opposed to writing the correct pronunciation on a blog or a wiki without the corresponding audio track.

21 Brilliant Resources for Up-skilling Learning Designers (for the Informal & Social Learning Age)

That said, there are rich skill statements out of places like ASTD and LPI.” – Clark Quinn (in our interview with him). “ THE QUOTE: “ Instructional designers need to run, not walk, away from classroom-thinking and get to the point of providing short, quick business focused learning points that are easily accessible when and where our learners need them. This means leveraging new technologies to deliver non-traditional instruction.”- Karl Kapp.

Review of #ASTD2014 International Conference and Expo

I should note this was the same issue at ASTD in Dallas, where your only options were “difficult to find coffee cart”, “bring your own” or “Starbucks” Guess what? Considering that plenty of smaller shows give free coffee, how hard is it for ASTD to do the same? Why Blended Learning Is Really Just Blended Training

Look again at what the ASTD describes the industry as: the “ knowledge-delivery” industry. The challenge for most trainers is that these resources aren’t “approved,” and can’t be tracked and reported on by an LMS.

#ASTDTK14 Review

eLearning 24-7

On the expo side, and I know ASTD Events are going to disagree with me (err, they already have via Linkedin), I wasn’t overly impressed on the number of vendors’ booths. Not only do you create the video micro-courses (learning chunks), you can track performance and award achievement badges. Overall, the sessions were very strong and even though the expo floor did not have as many vendors as I would hope, according to ASTD, 50% of the exhibitors already renewed. .

The ASTD Big question this month is an annual question: What did you learn about learning in 2009? So, I teamed with alumni Robyn Defelice at Dishing Design and updated the article for ASTD.
