With great anticipation I entered the huge expo at ASTD International show earlier this week. Lots of vendors, lots of potential. There were vendors that had nice LMSs and cool features. It just wasn’t me thinking this, I heard it from attendees and even other vendors who were trolling the floor. The Show Angle.

Okay, the first day of ASTD TK13 has wrapped up – at least from the expo side of the house. Out of all the shows, this is the one show that brings the most decision makers, and yet the number of vendors here is not great. Equally surprising are the lack of LMS vendors. How about – Litmos actually skinning the product themselves – as the majority of vendors do – at no additional charge or more simple click customization options. However there were plenty of vendors who had — NOTHING. The same with LMS administrators. I also liked the T-shirts from Maestro and WebEducator.

LMSs – Finally vendors took notice. Authoring Tools – With only a small sample of vendors that are SaaS based, pickings are slim. Despite overall consumer demand (not just within e-learning) for tablets, and numbers showing that tablets are outselling notebooks, e-learning vendors as whole are sitting back and waiting.
