The Advent of Mobile Learning Technology

Upside Learning

It seems the younger members of the workforce prefer synchronous (real-time) collaboration tools over asynchronous tools. In the future of collaboration in the workplace, tools like IM along with other real-time applications will gradually replace email. “May we live in interesting times” –Chinese Proverb. It’s amazing to see an accelerating rate of change leading up to what is now generally accepted as the true beginning of the ‘age of collaboration’.

The optimum solution may then be to reduce the required instructor-led training through the use of on-line (asynchronous) prep courses. Asynchronous e-Learning. Asynchronous e-learning includes courses and training materials that can be accessed by the student at any time. Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Instructional Design and Market Sector Differences

Learning Visions

Im guessing youre designing online distance learning courses. Im in the weird place of for-profit education, which really has characteristics of both market sectors. Having just a bachelors degree seems to be fine as long as you arent working directly for the universities (Im not sure about K-12 online). If "distance learning" means instructor-led online courses to you though, then yes, thats what Im doing.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: The Big Question: Instructional Design as a Spectrum

Learning Visions

Im wondering if we should be talking about tiers of instructional design. Craft distance learning events for college credit that pull together elements of both asynchronous and synchronous learning experiences. Today Im feeling more like a hazy purple. Im wondering if in the carpentry example if a master carpenter would agree with you? Im sure a master carpenter wouldnt think so highly of the table I were to make should I take on such a project.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Instructional Designers: Do You Have a Degree in ID?

Learning Visions

Im curious what other folks experiences has been. Im so happy to see you post this up. Im struggling with this right now. Im not on to trying to source another college or university to try out. I fill a support role and bide my time trying to finish a degree Im not really interested in.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Online Schooling for the K-12 Set

Learning Visions

This hasnt gotten onto my radar before -- Im not sure if there are any state-funded online programs in Massachusetts. Within higher ed, Im sure well continue to see growth in online, but it is starting to plateau a bit. All the projects provided standalone, asynchronous lessons. Im with Stephen that we need different kinds of learning options for different kids and different needs.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Instructional Design: Whats in a name?

Learning Visions

And by asking this, Im not suggesting that design isnt important, for it is - its seen by some as part of the pedagogy. LMS support, LMS training, Asynchronous software support and Management jobs Ive seen all require an ID degree, however the duties dont seem to warrant a degree in ID. Im curious if youre getting any guidance from your professors/school as to where you will be able to put these skills to work in the way that you want to?
