HTML5 Authoring Tool Review. I started writing and talking about HTML5 and its potential impact on elearning about a year and a half ago, and for the first year, one of the major obstacles was the lack of tools that output to HTML5.

The ability to record audio in real time or post time makes a lot of sense and eliminates the need for using Audacity (albeit it is a wonderful and free product). There is something wrong when a free and open source product like Audacity can do it, yet a product that costs hundreds of dollars cannot. Flash vs. HTML5. I am seeing many vendors still offering the ability to output screen recording and video to flash.

Numerous steps to view in HTML5. “Upload your content to a web server, you just give your learners a link to the story.htm file” – This is to view the course in HTML5 on your iPad. Flash – since my goal was to have the course visible on an iPad, I did not select this feature. Flash does not work on the iPad series. As a result, I recorded in Audacity and then used various plugins to enhance it, including the changing of tempo and pitch.

Authoring Tool Market – What I am seeing

HTML5 output. Right now I am doing a survey on authoring tools (more on this at the end of the post) and so far 100% of all respondents state that HTML5 output is required in an authoring tool. I do believe that HTML5 output will continue to grow as an authoring tool feature. It is time to realize that Flash output just isn’t enough anymore for folks. Audacity which is free – destroys it. HTML5 templates.

3, Interactions/Animations/Games I don’t want to get into the Flash debate here but let’s face it; the.swf output file is here to stay for a long time. You can sit around and wait for who wins the HTML5 argument or you can learn Flash.
