Photoshop is, of course, the undisputed king for this kind of work, but it might not be your best choice for several reasons. But the real reason is that unless you’re doing heavy photo and design work, Photoshop is probably overkill for your humble content editing needs (mainly cropping, resizing, making small adjustments, etc).

Audacity – I use this all the time. Gimp – Similar to Photoshop. While you can get going very quickly without any real tech skills, because it is similar and in some ways superior to Photoshop – to really maximize it, you need intermediate tech skills or be a regular Photoshop user. Avidemux – Similar to Premiere.

You don’t need to be a pro at Photoshop, but you need to know how to crop images and do some basic editing. I use the open source tool Audacity for audio editing. Photos and Images. Honestly, PowerPoint is a decent tool for simple image editing. I often use PowerPoint to remove backgrounds or make other quick changes.
