Background audio
Hi there! I'm Fergus. I'm originally from Ireland and via stints living and working as a trainer France, Spain, Brazil and South Africa I now find myself living and working in beautiful Canada. Professionally,  I come from over 10 years of teacher training in the English as Second Language industry where I was involved in many innovative 'ICT in classroom' projects. I also project managed curriculum development projects for deployment in a number of LMS products. Since 2016 my principal focus has been Instructional design. I transitioned to Adobe Captivate in 2018. Working as an Instructional designer has allowed me to also leverage skills with Photoshop, Indesign, Audition, Garageband, iMovie and Premiere Pro as well as live video recording, audio recording and photography. I love to collaborate and get to know people in this wonderful community! I've learned so much from new friends and colleagues I have met in the Adobe forums and I look forward to making more connections and growing together as a community.

I know about Audio->import to->object/slide/background, but does anyone know of a way to add audio to a slide which is independent of the timeline. Basically, I have the following situation:

  • Scenario with two characters having a dialogue.
    • Just for some more context – in this particular scenario both characters are having a conversation in a cafe. The background audio is playing cafe sounds e.g. the murmur of people in the background and coffee being made.
  • The dialogue moves forward via an advanced action with a series of ‘delay next action by‘ before each change of state of each character.
  • Each character’s speech audio is attached to their respective speech bubbles.
    • Speech bubbles are contained within each state of each character i.e. State 1= character image+ (speech bubble + attached audio)
  • Each advanced action ends with 2 buttons appearing which present the learner with an option as to how to move the conversation forward and a pause command.
    • The pause command is inserted to stop the playhead to allow the user to make their choice as to how to move the conversation forward.

The problem is when the slide reaches the pause command in the advanced action, this also stops the background audio. Is it possible to keep this background audio playing on loop even while my advanced action has paused the playhead?

Just an answer to your questino: the command Play Audio will start an audio clip that will continue to play, whatever happens on the timeline. It will only stop with another command ‘Stop Triggered Audio’ or with a command ‘Play Audio’ which launches another audio clip.

Will find an article (have also a movie) explaining the relation between timeline and different audio types. Post it in separate comment
