In my experience, small businesses (500 or less users) are the ideal audience for a low cost system. This does not mean that anyone who has more than 5,000 users should be a system in the low cost mode, but rather these systems are definitely suited to this business size. While the learning cloud and extended enterprise cloud are purchased by folks, I still see the platform – assuming you get all the modules as a HCM. Moodle can be a worthwhile system but it requires heavy customization, dedicated IT person who has Moodle skill sets (ideal), in-house support (because when end users can’t figure it out – they will come calling YOU) and costs that many folks fail to realize. Most systems in the education space are still strongly focused on synchronous based learning. I mean ever&# , from a senior executive at a mid to large size vendor that has been in the market for several years. Across the board, a large number of vendors (from small to large) saw increases in their quarter numbers. Especially, when vendors released their 2010 final numbers and saw big increases from the previous year. A trend that is happening in the LMS market more so than in the other e-learning markets, is the failure to follow their path of success.

The trends apply to both LMS/LCMS vendors. Extended Enterprise - Vendors are expanding into the wholesaler/reseller/affiliates/sales agent sector with their solutions. The note of interest is that it is occurring with all size of vendors, albeit the charge is being led by mid size vendors. Not all of the big dog vendors have entered this space, despite it being a huge revenue opportunity. and European vendors interestingly enough, do not follow suit.

From products that ranged from the latest versions of RCATs to new vendors in the space, including text to speech. . Not so much, from what I saw – some of the tools were underwhelming (granted some were quite impressive), but rather how the vendors themselves perceived where the market is going and what customers want in their authoring tools. More goodies then in the past, but the vendor with the awesome monkeys – it was nearly impossible to get one – you had a better chance of allowing them to stick leeches on you, then getting one – what’s the point of marketing – if the product you want to show – yours – isn’t walking the floor with folks. Less vendors scanning people’s ID badges, which I found interesting.

The “Files&# area contains all the images, video, audio, etc., Even with a learning portal, many people have some type of database on the back end for tracking purposes. Audio In Web Conferencing. A little known secret and often overlooked involves audio tied to recording. If the presenter is using VOIP, then audio is recorded during the presentation, because the audio is coming through the computer’s speakers. If the presenter is using a telephone, 98% of systems will not pick up the recording of the audio from a phone. Most systems do not record the audio from attendees, even if they are using VOIP, but some do.
