One of the great new features is a text to speech engine that lets you generate speech from your closed caption text. Adobe Captivate 4 Text to Speech demo. Adobe has published a demo showing how to use this new feature on the Adobe Captivate Blog. I tested out this feature on my cell phone (a Samsung BlackJack II ) by creating a small Captivate 4 demo and publishing it to my phone using the new Flash Lite Distributable Player.

I readily admit that I was unsure what to expect. From products that ranged from the latest versions of RCATs to new vendors in the space, including text to speech. . These were not characters that rarely moved, rather you could position them all over the screen, place them in the background and even record audio as part of the output. I believe that is going to change. Simply put, one vendor has over 200 Flash-based templates in their product.

The magic 8 ball is a fun item to use. Have you ever opened up a fortune cookie and said to yourself, “How did it know that about me?” From an interaction (listed as interactivity) to a feature within the product. I was chatting with someone the other day on this topic and she said to me (and btw she is an end user, not someone in the industry), why would I want to access a course on my Blackberry? However with an e-reader, I would be able to see the course since the screens are larger (more in a sec. She added, I have no desire to take a course on my Blackberry and never would. The RCAT (rapid content authoring tool) market continues to be healthy with nothing to slow it down – uh, except maybe one thing (more on that later). Yeah, I know we have just jumped into January, but in a review of the past several months, authoring tools continue to follow a similar path amongst themselves with certain feature sets. However, where you would expect some to move towards – they haven’t, which is disappointing on multiple tiers.
