Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Learning Styles

Learning Visions

In the context of e-Learning (back then it was just plain old CBT), this meant you had audio/video on the screen with timed text bullets. The learner could listen to the audio if her preferred style was auditory, OR read the text if her preferred style was visual. This means that I learn best through my visual channel, next kinesthetic, with audio being my weakest channel. Im with you. I always tune out the audio and read ahead.

Check audio quality. Good quality audio is critical. If your audience cannot hear you clearly, or if the audio has a lot of distortion or interference, participants may get frustrated and leave your webinar before it is over. Keep in mind that a good headset will often provide better quality audio than a laptop’s built-in microphone. When thinking about audio and selecting a place from which to present, also consider the likelihood of background noise.

For example, Meebo is more dedicated to chat, but there’s more overhead to get hooked up (it connects all IM channels, but you’d have to be on IM). You couldn’t do it in video or audio. In the future of collaboration in the workplace, tools like IM along with other real-time applications will gradually replace email.
