xical.org With Xical you can produce web-based slide shows, tutorials, tests and whatever else you can think of that can make use of integrated rich media, such as audio (speech and music), video, animations or interactive visual diagrams and the likes. Resources authored in eXe can be exported in IMS Content Package, SCORM 1.2, or IMS Common Cartridge formats or as simple self-contained web pages.

She had not used a chat room, IM, Facebook, or MySpace before joining a site called OurPrayer.org. It’s hard to do synchronous and get everyone there at the same time. Audio might be better for people who have trouble typing. This is another liveblogged post from the TCC 2008 conference. The usual rationale given for why eLearning needs both text and audio is that it accommodates multiple learning styles. When Im not busy helping to change the face of corporate learning, I like to train with the Dashe & Thomson company bike team, travel and read.

It seems the younger members of the workforce prefer synchronous (real-time) collaboration tools over asynchronous tools. In the future of collaboration in the workplace, tools like IM along with other real-time applications will gradually replace email. “May we live in interesting times” –Chinese Proverb. It’s amazing to see an accelerating rate of change leading up to what is now generally accepted as the true beginning of the ‘age of collaboration’.

Back to the Google Desktop -- Im playing around a bit with the searching capabilities and am seeing the light. Im struggling a bit with figuring out how to set the preferences so that it searches where I need it to search (I save most of my files to a shared network drive; not locally). So the search feature -- I get that and Im sold. Im not sure if the Sidebar would make me more productive or just more distracted.I

AUDIO RECORDING AND EDITING. Audacity is an audio recording and editing application with a lot of the features you find in commercial products. It works on all platforms and is probably the most popular free audio program around. It doesn’t have video or audio chat, though. You can also paste the video into an IM chat, email or Twitter. Dropbox seems to be the file synchronization software of choice.

Im guessing youre designing online distance learning courses. Im in the weird place of for-profit education, which really has characteristics of both market sectors. Having just a bachelors degree seems to be fine as long as you arent working directly for the universities (Im not sure about K-12 online). If "distance learning" means instructor-led online courses to you though, then yes, thats what Im doing.

Im wondering if we should be talking about tiers of instructional design. Craft distance learning events for college credit that pull together elements of both asynchronous and synchronous learning experiences. Today Im feeling more like a hazy purple. Im wondering if in the carpentry example if a master carpenter would agree with you? Im sure a master carpenter wouldnt think so highly of the table I were to make should I take on such a project.

Im curious what other folks experiences has been. Im so happy to see you post this up. Im struggling with this right now. Im not on to trying to source another college or university to try out. In the academic field, I presume one is designing both asynchronous and synchronous distance learning experiences. I fill a support role and bide my time trying to finish a degree Im not really interested in.

Im not sure how this relates to danah boyds recent blog article on Viewing American class divisions through FaceBook and MySpace. Im a major geek, yet I avoid Second Life and continue to be skeptical about its use in elearning. If 3D synchronous learning is indeed the wave of the future, Id say this gender divide in SL speaks to the need for more corporately-styled virtual worlds such as Protosphere by Protonmedia or OLIVE by Forterra.
