A few of my favorite things

Web Tools for Learners

Facebook - could be the next thing in learning management and PLE (personal learning environment). Audacity - open source audio creation and mp3 coding. LearnHub - a social network and course deployment site. Jing - online screen capture. Like most people who develop and manage training for a living, especially at small to medium sized companies and non profits, I have learned to do a lot of work using free and open source software tools.

Remember the days when you looked forward to field trips to the planetarium, hovering over a formaldehyde preserved frog with your lab team, or seeing the movie version of Lord of the Rings on a Friday afternoon?

Last Night at the HPCA Meeting

Web Tools for Learners

I'm a member of a freelancers' association know as the Halton Peel Communicators Association and last night we put on a a social media workshop. In an unthinking moment I had agreed to cover audio and video on the web, and the closer we got to the workshop, the more I began to fret. Why oh why hadn't I asked to do the Twitter presentation, I groused to myself, or the blogging one, or even the one on LinkedIn.

Working Remotely: Managing a Remote Team

Coassemble

Remote work can dramatically reduce the chance of contamination—tech giants like Slack , Twitter , Amazon, Microsoft, and Facebook have already begun transitioning their entire staff to work remotely. Remote workers are removed from social interactions, which can leave them feeling isolated and lonely. Having routines like weekly check-ins or social channels to share favorite pet pictures can replace the “watercooler chats” for remote people.
