Make no mistake, today blended learning goes beyond merely tagging on a movie or performing a Web Quest on the internet. Create “how-to” webcasts or videos, using programs like Camtasia or Jing and upload them to YouTube. Use audio/video conferencing for regular check-ins. Not New, But Improved.

The technology used for screencasting may be web-based, software, or a browser add-on, and have some of the following features: a spotlight for the mouse, the trainer’s picture (usually in the right corner), the possibility to edit the video once completed and the ability to upload to YouTube, the Cloud, or another common file sharing location.

Visually, this could also contribute to capabilities demostrations or self-promotion--not just for web-based applications, but the use of any visually striking software such as graphics and animations tools. While Jing has been my go-to option for quickly responding to questions, Camtasia does seem to offer more polish.

Jing is a screen-capture and screencasting tool that I’ve mentioned before. The basic version is free and I can’t say enough about how much I love Jing. Captivate and Camtasia can help you assemble more complicated projects that include video, text, images, audio clips, etc. Audacity can be used for editing audio.
