In 2005, PENS was launched by AICC but did not initially gain wide acceptance. In the past year, I have seen a wider number of vendors including the PENS course standard, which in my opinion, enables anyone who builds courses, a streamlined and fast process for publishing into a LMS/learning platform. This is a growing market with new vendors showing up, but at the same time, others disappearing. If a RCAT vendor tells you they have been in business for over 10 years, they are somewhat misleading, since WBT courses really didn’t start to hit the mark until 2000 and then you have limited choices on how to build. PPT or Word to Flash and the end user can add a TOC, some assessments, audio, video, even additional flash learning objects and attachments.

Because the industry as a whole is a lemming, I expect more vendors to come on board. In just the past month, I have seen quite a few vendors add this capability in their product – and for the most part they are all RCAT products. Audio Editing. Well some vendors have more than 15 come with their product. Anyway, I expect this number i.e. number of vendors to offer more than 10 interactive templates to rise. One vendor has a gaming raceway for quizzes.

If you like having scenarios in your courses, you will this tool, because not only does it come with a scenario builder, but also custom branding with your player, a ribbon style similar to what you see in the Microsoft Office products (which adds a familiarity touch), audio and video narration, screen capture/recording, assessments, interactions such as 3D cube, panoramic zoom, and ebook. A few vendors say “social learning” but it is often far from it.

I am still surprised on how vendors who are offering assessment only tools are staying in the game. Some vendors push heavily on PPT, implying that a great WBT is really a PPT converted to Flash. The latter is slowly gaining speed, which is an advantage to LMS vendors who have a CAT in their own product – which is SCORM,PENS/IMS compliant. One vendor focuses only on Blackberry (not just Playbook but their smartphone like product). Vendor adoption is slow.

Sure, other vendors will say you can do that too, but you have to open each object file to get it. Comes with a screen capture tool, spell checker (many RCATs do not), Slide audio recording & editing. Many vendors hyping PowerPoint to Flash angle as key feature. 57% offer a trial at various length, this is significantly higher than any other e-learning tool with over 40 vendors in the market.

Yes there are vendors doing some new stuff, okay many, but a few items are not new, rather they have been around for a long time. SaaS boost – Finally more vendors are on the appropriate path for their consumers; but the big folks are not – why? Mobile Friendly – It has taken a bit of time, but go anywhere and you will see “Responsive” and “HTML5″ xAPI – Another why wasn’t this done a year ago for many vendors?

are from 2019, and knowing (well I do) some changes in the space with a few vendors in 2020, their will likely be a couple of key players that make an impact in 2020, because of their rollout (i.e. I know some vendors will think quickly of a Big Dog that must be in the rolling out part, I can tell you, that the Big Dog you are thinking about, is wrong. . To be in the rankings the vendors were not required to be in FindAnLMS, nor did they pay any fee or anything like that.

If you are an e-learning vendor in the higher education space and doing or planning on doing business in Europe, this is the place to be. There was a very good amount of vendors at the show. Additionally, there were the usual number of what are you doing at an e-learning show vendors and a smattering of universities offering online courses. So far in 2014, the authoring tool space hasn’t really come out with anyone earth shattering, that would make you stand up and scream “Brussels Sprouts are the new “spinach” Avatars and background templates continue to “in” - A few vendors are now adding “real life” scenario backgrounds- but “real life” is open to interpretation. Collaboration – How much longer are AT vendors going to push this out as “new”?

Feature sets – they have to be more than PPT to Flash or add an audio clip and video clip to the course. When you see many of these awards from organizations – the general mass of them (but not all of them) require the vendor/company to submit an application for whatever category or categories. There is never any pay for play here – even my vendor clients are aware that they may not win best of the best. Can add HTML5 audio and video (SWEET!).

PENS is nearly non-existent in this segment and CMI-5 is extremely new and few vendors have it – expect more in 2019. What I would love to see is where the admin can add “new topics” and not select only from a list that the vendor has in the system. . Some vendors have only a certain number of topics for learners to choose from – they should have plenty and then the admin selects which ones are available.

HD Audio. Course standards include xAPI and PENS, besides the standards of SCORM. . They have partnerships with a few LMS vendors whereas you can purchase their courses via that LMS. I am aware of at least one vendor who includes five courses at no additional charge into their LMS. Best Custom Course Provider from an LMS Vendor. There are LMS vendors (including various subsets) that will build custom courses for you, regardless if you are a client or not.

There are I believe a wide variety of factors that are a cause of this, and one I see right away is the failure of various authoring tool vendors to their new customers and/or customers who already have content and want to go e-learning, is the lack of education. Memorize this mantra, “A converted PowerPoint with audio reading the slides and forcing the learning to wait until the audio is done to advance is not effective e-learning.”
