Online courses must die!

Occupying a place on the continuum somewhere between a VLE and a PLE, an ILE is an informal learning environment that a facilitator manages on behalf of a group of learners. So your PDFs can go in there, but so too can your audio clips, videos, puzzles, games, quizzes and simulations. Unlike a PLE, an ILE is communal. A touch dramatic, isn’t it? Now that I have your attention, please bear with me. There’s method in my madness… The myth of rapid authoring.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Personal Hard Drive

Learning Visions

Thursday, June 14, 2007 Personal Hard Drive Mark Oehlert made some very sparky comments as he enters into the "raging PLE debate." (I Mark writes, "You wanna know what a PLE is? I said a similar thing in a comment on Tony Karrers blog the other day: Isnt the main tool of the PLE our very own little brains? Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Be the Node

Learning Visions

First off, I have to say that this entire PLE conversation hasnt really sparked much for me. Maybe it was even "personal learning" before the term PLE came along. I dont see a traditional corporation every truly embracing the theme of PLE -- at least in the pure sense of the term "personal". So, you have a PLE if : If youre interested in personal growth and development. To have a PLE, do you need to first be aware that you are learning?

Content creation

Learning with e's

Content creation is an important feature in many personal learning environment (PLE) models, and together with organising and sharing, makes up the cardinal triumvirate of skills that provides learners with a clear advantage. Podcasts, normally in the form of the audio recording of an event, are also a means of projecting and sharing content to others so that they can listen at a time and in a place (usually on the move) of their choosing.

I've also added audio books and have now tested Podcasting files. The holidays are coming and I must find a justification for buying (as a gift to myself) the iPod Video. Currently, I am enjoying my 40 Gig iPod for music and have downloaded hundreds of my favorite songs. The cool thing about iPod is the way I can organize, listen, and purchase music anytime I want. I can personalize my iPod. I am however, amazed with how my fellow trainers respond to technologies in this case the iPod.

So the PLE conversation has been, for me, framed in terms of the LMS and tools. How do you make an LMS into a PLE? And it started dawning on me that the PLE was about a revolution in learning -- about teaching people to learn -- about empowering individuals to take control of their own learning environments, their futures. PLE is a concept. Tom Haskins wrote, "Life is my PLE." The PLE is not a corporate responsibility, but a societal one.
