FMR SWF Edit

Adobe Captivate

Till Adobe Captivate 4, Full Motion Recording (FMR) SWF editing feature existed as a separate application outside captivate. This feature supports the following operations – trimming of frames from an FMR SWF, inserting FMR SWFs in to another FMR SWF, splitting of FMR SWFs and merging a set of FMR SWFs. Note that this FMR edit doesn’t modify any of the other objects, such as audio etc, on the slide as this feature is designed for editing of FMR SWFs than FMR Slides.

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

Fortunately, adding interactivity to a lesson does not negatively impact the size of the published SWF. Rather, imported assets such as audio, video and images are the main culprits behind SWF bloat. There are some things that you can do while working in Captivate that may lower the size of the published SWF. If you decide to publish a SWF, the learner will use a web browser to access the lesson. In addition to the web browser, the learner must have the free Adobe Flash Player on the computer to view the SWF.

For SWF output you had the choice: it was possible to change the default setting which was to have a movie playing automatically after loading. I often disabled that option when embedding SWF’s on my blog (look at older articles), especially when audio was involved because it is not very polite to have audio being pushed to the reader automatically.
