For an upcoming panel session that will be looking at where eLearning is going, I was trying to get a ballpark sense of how much eLearning is being done with various tools as an indicator of where we stand in terms of adoption of eLearning 1.0, For example, I've not included use of software simulation tools, etc.

In my Ten Predictions for eLearning for 2008 , I said - Wiki + SCORM + Add-ins will become more common for easy authoring. Not sure if he saw my post, but I was just reminded by Tim Seager from Xerceo about their Prescribe tool that provides: Full Wiki, RSS functionality that is SCORM conformant for tracking and managing competencies.

One interesting result is that the audience for my eLearning 2.0 You learn about this using these tools and scanning sources like blogs, trying things out, forcing yourself to make time to learn. How do people manage their regular deliverables while exploring all these tools, keeping up to date, learning new tools, etc?

And I would suggest that there are a couple of interesting implications: Web-Based, Niche Authoring Tools I've claimed for a while (see Authoring in eLearning 2.0 / Add-ins & Mash-ups and Incredibly Cool! You somewhat see this with Survey Tool. And there are lots of subjects where sharing makes sense.

For example, it is elearning? eLearning? I used to love these tools. In fact, it is probably even more systemic. e-Learning?

are fundamental workplace tools in the same way that other tools (office applications, web applications, the Internet etc.) are also tools, but think of the absurdity of making a big deal of Excel as an "e-learning 1.0 Is it because corporate trainers (I am one now, so I can critique them) are so backward and 2.0-illiterate?

The recent article by Dion Hinchcliffe - Blogs, wikis, and Web 2.0 as the next application platform got me thinking again about what corporate eLearning development will be like in five years. To a lesser extent people are using Rapid eLearning Development tools but this is expected to grow significantly.

Most descriptions of tool sets start with the tools and proceed to describe the features of the tools. Starting with the tools is what I consider to be a bottom-up approach. I understand why most authors start with the tool. Trying to fit any tool into the myriad of different work lives is really hard.

Last week I presented a session at ASTD TechKnowledge entitled eLearning 2.0 - Applications and Implications. It could just as easily have been called Web 2.0 Existing Adoption At the very start I asked the audience for examples of where they were currently using these tools as part of learning solutions.

I agree with Mark that there are fairly sizable organizational culture aspects to enterprise adoption of enterprise 2.0 / web 2.0 / eLearning 2.0. And, when you look at adoption patterns - a lot of what makes adoption of Web 2.0 And I think it's easy to underestimate that impact. You don't know?
