Reports – very basic, but this is more a content authoring tool hybrid – which is becoming more prominent in the industry, so the minimal report is equally being seen. Inability to have course be non-linear when live; it stays linear (another typical ILT feature), hint: WBT’s power is non-linear. It is also nice, because it aligns to what many people see when they are editing videos in their video software.

Low Cost LMS - Help Needed

We have roughly 500 learners and would use the LMS for mainly tracking and registration of ILT courses, communication (possibly through message boards), and posting of class materials. The development of e-Learning is being done through Captivate, so I do not need a system with authoring capabilities. I received an inquiry about the need for a low cost LMS solution and I've not had time to help this person with answers. I'm hoping folks can chime in with suggestions and resources.

I can honestly say, the ATD show is changing from ILT driven (it has always been that way) to e-learning improvement. This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . Growth Engineering LMS – #1 in my Top 50 and their launch of Genie, their authoring tool which comes with the system, but can also be a stand alone. Basically, you can add your PPT, MP4, assessment, word docs, etc.

Built in Content Authoring Tool – No. Many people today prefer 3rd party authoring tools and in fact, I recommend that route rather then using a vendor’s built in authoring tool. I know people who have company laptops and thus cannot access this or that at home, including the installation of browser software, yet all these folks have a mobile device, in which they access sites. . Here is what will happen if people used the power of their authoring tool (sans Studio, which is really a PPT converter). And I equally agree that many authoring tool vendors do not provide tutorials on how to build a course (not just how to use their software).
