The Latest: Rapid Content Authoring Tool Market

eLearning 24-7

The RCAT (rapid content authoring tool) market continues to be healthy with nothing to slow it down – uh, except maybe one thing (more on that later). Yeah, I know we have just jumped into January, but in a review of the past several months, authoring tools continue to follow a similar path amongst themselves with certain feature sets. I am still surprised on how vendors who are offering assessment only tools are staying in the game.

Reaction to IMS Learning Impact 2012 Conference

Xyleme

We may have all been drinking the same cool-aid, but at the IMS Global Learning Consortium Learning Impact Conference in Toronto, there was a meeting of the minds. The IMS is at the cutting edge of web 2.0 LTI (Learning Tool Interoperability) in particular has cracked the LMS open. The learning tools that were previously only native to the LMS are now are externalized from the LMS, and enabled as cloud-based “tools.”

Answering your LMS Questions

How many of you have seen vendors respond to your questions? A: Virtually every LMS vendor out there in the marketplace provides these features. The ones who may not are those who identify themselves as “Training mgt systems and alike” – because they are really focused on the course authoring tool and are not a LMS in the true sense of the word. Congrats, you are probably looking at less than 10 (based on my LMS directory which contains 475 vendors).

What is a Learning Management System? (2019 Update)

Docebo

Today’s enterprise learning strategies require smart solutions that go beyond the capabilities of traditional tools. To understand how a Learning Platform will help improve enterprise learning objectives, you must first grasp what an LMS is, why it’s an essential tool, and how to get the most out of it. A Learning Management System is a software-based platform that facilitates the management, delivery, and measurement of an organization’s corporate e-learning programs.

Is the cloud hastening the demise of the LMS?

The IMS Global Learning Consortium has announced the release latest version of the IMS Learning Tools Interoperability Specification – Version 1.1. This specification provides a way for courses running in IMS-conformant Learning Management systems to securely access remote content, tools and services, and receive back user’s results. Blackboard, for example, provides a rich set of tools; however, they only work on Blackboard.

Do you think instructional designers should be able to use the tools? So, if Im not teaching, Im not instructing.

More likely, if they dont have version control tools, its because they havent even thought about it.
