eLearning 24-7

The RCAT (rapid content authoring tool) market continues to be healthy with nothing to slow it down – uh, except maybe one thing (more on that later). As the rapid content authoring market continues to grow, new features and capabilities are equally growing. There are 124 authoring tools in my latest directory, of which 30 are SaaS or a combination of desktop and SaaS – which really what is the point of that? Even though more tools are adding the features of collaborative and peer review (more on that in a sec) they are still heavy geared towards a desktop solution. This eliminates that issue.

Course Standards: Where R We Heading?

eLearning 24-7

There has been a lot of information out there , okay, I’m kidding there hasn’t been much of anything when it comes to course standards. I’ll readily admit that regardless of the course standard you use, if you create click-click-click courses, than no course standard will make it engaging. Questions to Ask Ur Prospective LMS Vendor

eLearning 24-7

Below are some standard questions to ask, but are in no particular order. Because if you are using a content authoring tool that is SCORM 2004, then you must find a system that is at least 2004. Your tool will not work with a 1.2. Unless you purchased a tool that is only AICC compliant, which in that case, time to ditch it and get another one. What about PENS or some other compliance standard? Go directly to the 3rd party vendor whose courses they are.

Q&A - eLearning Standards Especially SCORM

Tony Karrer

Here's a recent one to get me started: Is it mandatory to use SCORM while developing an E-learning Software? You want to implement your courseware to the SCORM standard if you plan to have it launched and/or tracked under an LMS. SCORM is a fairly easy standard to deal with especially since most people are fine with a single SCO that does only single score/completion reporting. What about other Standards? Great post on issues that many of us have faced!)

LCMS - Warehouse and Authoring

Tony Karrer

One thing is pretty clear, LCMS tools have really headed towards a kind of super Authoring tool and there's a related but quite distinct need for support for a Warehouse. In a true enterprise deployment of LCMS all learning content and original source files regardless of what tools may have been used to develop it are stored and meta tagged in the LCMS central repository facilitating quick and easy search and retrieval. External vendors can work with the LCMS as well.

E-Learning: Did you know.

eLearning 24-7

I love going to LMS sites and seeing a list of clients that the vendor lists. Especially the LMS vendors who also create custom content/development. That some vendors who provide a list of clients may not be clients of their LMS, rather they are current or past clients of custom course development. Yep, you read that right, and best or worst of all, they (vendor) never tells you, unless you inquiry. For the vendor to achieve success in the demo.
