To help clarify this and to begin thinking through implications for Work Literacy Skills , I went back through a couple of different sources. Twitter is Much Better than I Thought for Learning I used to say during presentations that I wasn’t quite sure about twitter as a learning tool. During 2010, I’ve been ramping up my use of twitter as a learning tool. iPad (and iPhone) are Much More Useful Than I Expected I didn’t actually think that I would care about the iPad except as a tool for training and performance support in environments like retail and restaurants where it’s always been an issue having access to machines.

Evaluating Performance of Concept Workers

I've recently been talking to people about evaluating performance of Concept Workers. Evaluating concept worker performance is an interesting challenge: No right answer - Most often there is no single right answer. Which authoring tool, LMS, etc. Evaluator knowledge limit - In most cases, the person doing the performance evaluation knows less about the subject that the performer. I'm coming to believe this is the most important Knowledge Worker Skill Gap.

One of the questions being raised this week in the free, online course Work Literacy: Web 2.0 To me, this is a critical part of The New Skills for knowledge workers. And what I often cite as the biggest change in knowledge work skills over the past 20 years is the change in access to people. In these cases, a new kind of conversation, distributed work is required. As a side note, the Work Literacy browse search feature worked great for me today.

Next year, I intend to start making the world a better place, and that’s going to take more oomph, focus, and work with others. Authority is fluid and contingent on value-added. Knowledge workers have replaced factory workers. Shareholders owned the factories, but workers own their minds. Information spreading through network connections empowers workers to make decisions and take responsibility for them.
