Tool Set 2009

Tony Karrer

I thought I'd kick off this year by posting a series of posts on topics related to tools and methods for work and learning. I'm hoping to address questions such as: How do you create a personal tool set or Personal Learning Environment (PLE) for yourself? What should be in your tool set? What are the most important methods to adopt in addition to the tools? Should twitter be part of your tool set? Tools to Make Reading & Research More Effective.

Ten Predictions for eLearning 2008

Tony Karrer

Here are my predictions, but realistically they are more about trends in eLearning and eLearning Software. tools by learning professionals ( More eLearning Bloggers). Tools to Make Reading & Research More Effective. Prediction #2 => Virtual Classroom Tools - Meeting Tool + Second Life Lite A medium size Virtual Classroom / Meeting Tool will announce features in 2008 that are not 3D immersive, but that are more like Mii characters in a 2.5D

Top-Down Strategy

Tony Karrer

Most descriptions of tool sets start with the tools and proceed to describe the features of the tools. Starting with the tools is what I consider to be a bottom-up approach. It's left to the reader to interpret where they fit into their day-to-day concept work. I understand why most authors start with the tool. Trying to fit any tool into the myriad of different work lives is really hard. What methods and tools do I use for that task?

Conversation Learning

One of the questions being raised this week in the free, online course Work Literacy: Web 2.0 To me, this is a critical part of The New Skills for knowledge workers. And what I often cite as the biggest change in knowledge work skills over the past 20 years is the change in access to people. In these cases, a new kind of conversation, distributed work is required. As a side note, the Work Literacy browse search feature worked great for me today.
