T his post covers a list of systems that I’d recommend on any given day, that based on nearly 20 years of experience in online learning, and witnessing the trends, the duds, the promises and disappoints. What it isn’t – is a list of systems based on a 15 point criteria that I use for my Top 50 for 2020. That said, I will say to you, that before you just buy the learning system, please, please do due diligence on the system.

The Education member committee, which is usually eight or 10 members, who often have various ideas on what system you should go with, and their research can be based on a state chapter, or what someone told them, or they are committed to member education, but are wide open for discussion. The notion of types of personalities, aligns in some ways with types of systems, in that there is a lot of leeway in terms of what it actually means, with some folks saying this, when in fact it is that. . There is no better place to see this then our fine world of e-learning, which was devised to be an umbrella term for everything that is well, online learning. An LMS thus is under e-learning. Who would have guessed that VR would be on wobbly ground in the corporate learning space for the majority of verticals? Who would have seen that Amazon is working on a commercial LMS, which based on the background of the person running Learning Products, doesn’t really point towards an LMS like you know the term actually means (I’ll get to that shortly)? Based on some exploration, it is clear to me they have a couple of routes to go in terms of the system.

NexGen Tier2 Learning Systems

A year ago I wrote about NexGen functionality in any learning system. This is to say, that any learning system vendor who tells you they are NexGen, should have Tier 1 functionality (in its entirety or at least 60% of it). With the strong growth of Learning Engagement Platforms, LMS vendors (who make up the largest segment in the learning system space) are diving in head first and adding more LEP capabilities. Nowadays every learning system vendor out there will tell you their system is Next Generation or some nuanced spin that goes towards NexGen. The problem is that for most of the systems, it just isn’t the case. This is due to a couple of key factors: They do not know what constitutes a system to be NexGen. I mean NexGen of 2017 is not the same as a system that is NexGen 2019, or at least you hope it is not the same. 120 is a perfect system.
