In my Ten Predictions for eLearning for 2008 , I said - Wiki + SCORM + Add-ins will become more common for easy authoring. Not sure if he saw my post, but I was just reminded by Tim Seager from Xerceo about their Prescribe tool that provides: Full Wiki, RSS functionality that is SCORM conformant for tracking and managing competencies. He also pointed me to a video that shows the tool in action. Tim, you may want to get help on better presenting your tool.

LTI (Learning Tool Interoperability) in particular has cracked the LMS open. The learning tools that were previously only native to the LMS are now are externalized from the LMS, and enabled as cloud-based “tools.” With the ability to easily create learning applications that seamlessly mash-up the best content, and with the tools available, it is no wonder that some innovative vendors have already seized on this new opportunity.

Authoring Tools. GenY have grown up with rich-media and have a significant difference in attitude from the Gen X. People will want to create and communicate and do this quickly and without “due process” Authoring tools will need to support mashups, but I suspect that tools themselves need to be created as a mash-up of tools. Each constituent tool in the final mash-up relate to a specific media (text, audio, video etc.)

I've seen the Content Authoring Research Report from the eLearningGuild that suggests what tools are being used in 2005 and it suggests that most content is being authored using fairly traditional tools such as Flash, PowerPoint, Dreamweaver, Captivate, Lectora. To a lesser extent people are using Rapid eLearning Development tools but this is expected to grow significantly. embedded based on other tools or add-ins.

And I would suggest that there are a couple of interesting implications: Web-Based, Niche Authoring Tools I've claimed for a while (see Authoring in eLearning 2.0 / Add-ins & Mash-ups and Incredibly Cool! Vision of Future of Application and eLearning Development ) that the age of desktop / installed heavy authoring tools are going to lose out to web-based authoring tools that focus on particular niches and allow composition.

The author(s) have been writing individual articles for months or years. This is fairly wide ranging from traditional courseware kinds of issues to specialized kinds of tools and sites. My background includes things like being the CTO of eHarmony (online marriage matching based on personality profiles and controlled communication) from its launch through their $110M venture round to working on interesting eLearning and tools for companies like Lexus, HP, IBM, etc.

They fail to let people know that building something isn’t free, even if the software to do so is equally free. 15 Administrate – Part CRM, part financial tools, and a unique approach that works for a LMS. If you are seeking a system that is a mash-up of useful business tools with a strong LMS, than this is a system to examine. Well, that’s good because I just made it up. Authoring tool? I love to travel.

They could use cameras, graphics software, a combination of these, or some other tools to create and capture their illustrations. This is where the rubber meets the road, by dreaming up features we invent the mLearning systems future right here. Social/Collaborative – Offering tools that mimic social media/network software will be one obvious theme. For administrators/managers robust analysis tools for social network and generated content analysis will provide a truer picture of the ‘knowledge state’ of the organization than an LMS could ever hope to represent.

In the second of a two-part blog reflecting on Learning Solutions Conference and Expo 2013 Unicorn CEO, Peter Phillips, looks at the five hottest conference issues - mobile, Tin Can, authoring tools, what's next for the LMS and could websites be the new LMSs? Some people are really not getting the impact of different tools. Tools? , tools inside organizations. The Big Question is back.

Beginning with objectives for what learners should take away and then demonstrates in their performance, to the design process and finally the software used to build courseware always determine the instructional yield at the end. When you desire higher order learning; that is information that actually teaches beyond mere recall, then how you design and what software you select for development define your expectations most clearly.

I find my best time for thinking up excellent blog entries is late at night when Im lying in bed. Ill simply have to cut and paste it into my blog tool, reformat it, and do some heavy editing. I picked up the same tip from Michele, and while I havent used Jott to blog, its a terrific way to "write" a note to yourself without endangering too many other drives. Chris, your worries are justified -- even with a headset, talking on the phone takes up a lot of mental bandwidth.

Elizabeth works as a speaker, success coach, and author of the forthcoming book I’m Too Busy, and Other Lies We Tell Ourselves That Keep Us Stuck. one of the co-authors of the pre-con idea let me just say that here is the issue - Ive been to a lot of conferences and have done a good numer of presentations and while I do get energized by doing those parts, Id really love some time when I can be around and learn from the other folks like Tony and Clark who I really only get to connect with in a f-2-f mode at conferences.

I’m closing the chapter on 2008 and gearing up for 2009 and beyond. Marc Rosenberg, Allison Rossett, Barbara Pellow, and I led Up to Speed, an event in NYC for Mimeo. Authority is fluid and contingent on value-added. Posted my first video mash-up to YouTube. Most important of all, the Web software provides a social layer that connects people with one another and with information.
