With all this fun summer stuff, comes my summer course authoring tool rankings. For those who are in my top ten course authoring tool rankings. #10 Assessment tool including randomization. HTML5 output including a PPT converter to HTML5. They offer two versions, but this is in reference to the paid version.

Feature sets – they have to be more than PPT to Flash or add an audio clip and video clip to the course. Again, not every tool below is SaaS based, but at some point, you have to move to the SaaS world, especially if you are offering or saying you do – some type of mobile learning functionality. An additional note.

– This means that multiple people can work at the same time on the same course and same page – it is really an awesome feature, especially with SaaS authoring tools. Increase of authoring tool vendors – More are in, less are out, but there still is a gap between good and average – a huge gap.

As the rapid content authoring market continues to grow, new features and capabilities are equally growing. There are 124 authoring tools in my latest directory, of which 30 are SaaS or a combination of desktop and SaaS – which really what is the point of that? SaaS: Software is in the cloud, on the internet.
