Initially I wasn’t going to post authoring tool rankings beyond the top ten, until July. 20 eLab - The user interface is intriguing and enables anyone to build a course, without having the typical “ooh that looks so lame” with some rapid content authoring tools.

Again, not every tool below is SaaS based, but at some point, you have to move to the SaaS world, especially if you are offering or saying you do – some type of mobile learning functionality. I’ve seen some authoring tools that fit most of the criteria above, but whose ease of use is substandard or even really bad. There is never any pay for play here – even my vendor clients are aware that they may not win best of the best.

Right now, at m-learning vendor locations around the world, especially in the RCAT space, they should be scheduling meetings and coming up with a new perspective and approach to their products. For LMS vendors, adding “HTML5 feature sets makes sense – especially if they are adding mobile learning components in their system. For vendors whose products are in the works for HTML5 output (ahem, in beta), perhaps speeding up the process wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
