Bewildered on what is happening, why what is needed isn’t appearing as it should, and how is it possible that something so obvious based on where e-learning is heading, mobile is pushing and future tech is inspiring is lost among so many vendors? So far in 2014, the authoring tool space hasn’t really come out with anyone earth shattering, that would make you stand up and scream “Brussels Sprouts are the new “spinach” Avatars and background templates continue to “in” - A few vendors are now adding “real life” scenario backgrounds- but “real life” is open to interpretation. Feature sets – they have to be more than PPT to Flash or add an audio clip and video clip to the course. Again, not every tool below is SaaS based, but at some point, you have to move to the SaaS world, especially if you are offering or saying you do – some type of mobile learning functionality. Low Cost LMS - Help Needed

Situation description: I have talked to several vendors and have received quotes at the 6-8k (per year) range for the licensing. We have roughly 500 learners and would use the LMS for mainly tracking and registration of ILT courses, communication (possibly through message boards), and posting of class materials. The development of e-Learning is being done through Captivate, so I do not need a system with authoring capabilities. Smaller vendors may not be found.
