The RCAT (rapid content authoring tool) market continues to be healthy with nothing to slow it down – uh, except maybe one thing (more on that later). I am still surprised on how vendors who are offering assessment only tools are staying in the game. The data is in, the results are interesting and the competition is growing.

Lots of ILT vendors – again, the show has always been geared towards this, so no surprise, in fact, ATD formally known as ASTD has always been heavy on ILT and book things, and just in the last few years has seen a major increase in e-learning vendors, with the past show being nearly 50% – the highest ever.

Here is my report from World of Learning Conference (where I was presenting in Birmingham, UK). World of Learning Conference continues to deliver winning results. Why LMS vendors and authoring tool ones for that matter, do not come in droves to this conference is mystifying to me. . And authoring tool vendors?

Because if you are using a content authoring tool that is SCORM 2004, then you must find a system that is at least 2004. What about PENS or some other compliance standard? Unless you must have PENS or one of the other compliance standards, it is not needed. PENS was created by AICC as an alternative to SCORM 2004, 3rd edition.

A: Virtually every LMS vendor out there in the marketplace provides these features. The ones who may not are those who identify themselves as “Training mgt systems and alike” – because they are really focused on the course authoring tool and are not a LMS in the true sense of the word. SCORM/AICC/PENS/IMS.
