Someone came up with the idea to create templates for developing courses quickly – and no, it wasn’t someone from Adobe or Articulate. I was using DazzlerMax and Authorware, which are superior offerings for creating courses. Instead, it was someone from Macromedia Dreamweaver, which is software for building websites.

If you are an e-learning developer or instructional designer this has always been a favorite feature of authoring tools. If you are an Authorware fanatic missing the old days, you are still going to miss it – because while these capabilities are being added to tools they are still not at the level of Authorware.

The last of the morning sessions was split into two breakouts: Harry Mellon with Dazzle Technologies talked about “Flash, Authorware, and Other Authoring and Development Tools Review” in one room and Patti Shank with Learning Peaks, LLC talked about “Articulate, Captivate, and Other Rapid Tools Review.”

This will become one of the biggest features in 2012 – especially with people wanting to create simulations without being an e-learning developer. Listen, Authorware is dead, so why create a product that is trying to bring it back to life with your own product? Templates – growing at quick clip.

This is not the same thing as picking some templates and scenarios and building, rather a strong sim will expect you to have instructional design and e-learning development skills. 2004, AICC, PENS, TinCan) would be equally relevant. Hierarchy/Tree view – Focused on course elements, objects, etc. If you are new, you can build.

Macromedia Authorware and similar products. While some could argue that Authorware was a RCAT, I disagree. People who are not WBT instructional designers or content developers or have a deep background in either field and are now handed off the task of creating content/courses. Macromedia Director.
