Over the last ten years or so, major elearning developers have preferred to use tools like Flash, Authorware and Director from Adobe (earlier Macromedia). One of the other major advantages of Flash is that is supports close designer-developer collaboration. Is there a competitor to Flash? Is there an alternative to Flash?

If it's an e-learning tutorial that you're after, including the usual mix of multimedia and interactions, then you have to make an important choice, between tools that you install on your desktop and online tools: Desktop tools ( Flash , Authorware , Lectora , etc.) For an open source alternative, try EXE.

Some vendors push heavily on PPT, implying that a great WBT is really a PPT converted to Flash. Flash output – still red hot. Listen, Authorware is dead, so why create a product that is trying to bring it back to life with your own product? Flash isn’t going anywhere, except maybe the route of leaded gasoline.

The degree opens many doors but thats about it. I learned Toolbook and Authorware on my own while in the program. It seems to me that a lot of companies really want a lot of the micro (the job descriptions require Flash, Captivate, etc.) Im one of the unfortunate ones with a actual honest to goodness Masters Degree in EdTech.
