Saba always thought of themselves behind the scenes as a performance management system, even though they publicly pushed it for L&D – employees. At the time, I hated it. TIM I understand is still around and hasn’t evolved.

I managed to have a quick chat with Michael Allen and he explained just what a major undertaking the development of this tool has been. Michael was, of course, the creator of Authorware, a highly powerful tool from the CD-ROM era, which Adobe eventually gave up on after they inherited it from Macromedia.

For the authorware supporters this was akin to blasting the planet with gamma rays. 95% of the coaching I see in systems, or in products online follows a similar approach: Learner records themselves via a web cam or device and sends it to the coach OR is recorded in real-time to the coach (ideally a manager or some other expert).
