The speeds presented were ideal speeds, but I remember, landing 38KBS in Boston, with a 56K modem. Heck, I was in a doctorate program, whereas the majority of the ‘courses’ was via Lotus Notes, the other was ILT. Think about it this way, could someone shove 640mb CBT online with a 14.4, let alone 56K modem? BB dominated.

As I write this, my Adobe Updater program is busy installing the latest updates to my Adobe Creative Suite 3. Financial stability implies that the vendor is going to be around long enough so you can continue to maintain your data long into the future (not that it always works out that way, with Adobe discontinuing development on Authorware!).

I came into rapid e-learning from the world of Authorware and Flash where building courses took a lot of time and cost a lot more money. But I saw the light in the early 2000s when I started using Articulate Presenter. Initially, I only used it to storyboard my course content and interactions in PowerPoint.

Will it replicate those craving for an Authorware return? Actions, scripts, programming. Oh, and for Adobe Presenter fans? While beginners could jump in and start to create a course, I see it more as a product for instructional designers and some e-learning developers. Absolutely not, but it does offer some punch. And that’s the case whether they built them in Authorware or PowerPoint. No one is saying that PowerPoint is on par with custom-built courses that require complex programming.

Macromedia Authorware and similar products. While some could argue that Authorware was a RCAT, I disagree. WYSIWYG/HTML/Javascript/maybe CSS options as well, perhaps even additional programming languages you can incorporate, a full package of capabilities inc. Macromedia Director. HTML and Javascript. That was pretty much it.
