Here is a sampling of those vendors on the (“Alternative to Moodle). Edmodo – Limited free, the “Enterprise” version is fee-based, and BTW, I’ve never seen EdTech use the words “Enterprise” before, which is a corporate term. . The self-managed version is free, the full-managed one is not.

And yeah there are vendors who will taut that they are in X list or Y rankings and thus should be included. This isn’t a beauty contest, nor a pay for play (I NEVER accept that, nor play that game, nor do I accept any referral fees or whatever some vendors offer for recommending them). Not everyone gets in. But I digress.

There is a growing list of vendors, including small/mid size that are adding talent management components that match the Big Dog systems. A couple of vendors have added HRIS modules. It is interesting to note, that many of the vendors are targeting the SMB space, especially the small size (less than 500 employees) market.

At least on the HE (higher ed) side, people in general do not like the built-in authoring tools that come with the HE platorms, most notably Blackboard, Instructure and D2L/Brightspace. It was by far Storyline 2 or the older version of Storyline. A close race between Blackboard and Moodle. For Blackboard? Nor Lectora.

Some vendors have multiple systems, but generally speaking it is usually one to one, i.e. one vendor and one system. Open source systems are included, but not “customized shops or botique firms from customized Moodle per se that you pay” In the 2017 report, the number of vendors explored was 1,000. is in the report.
