While some view themselves as “social learning&# savvy, incorporating various components, others seem to see themselves as just sitting on the sidelines. Unfortunately, too many vendors in the e-learning space have failed to see the power and potential of this capability, and have decided to ignore them. SCORM Player communicating with your vendor’s solution, for example, if you were creating your own LMS and Rapid Intake’s rapid e-learning authoring tool, it includes a SCORM Player API. One vendor asked if you wanted to learn more about their product and sent you to their help desk to notify them of errors or issues with their system (hmm, not likely to buy one from these guys). But with LMS vendors jumping into the mobile learning sector, at least in some cases, it may be a tad misleading, especially with smartphones. Over the next month, I will be testing a few LMS vendors out there with several alternative browsers to see if their system is truly browser agnostic, and will report the results back to you on my blog. Because without it, you cannot have social learning. In order for social learning to exist you need to have the following: social media plus e-learning. And, let us clear up another point: social learning is not just social networking.
