Often I have two small kids in tow or Im trying to check ten things off a list during my lunch hour. A good aggregator (like Stephen Downes) will get me the info I need so Im not missing the really juicy stuff. I may even just skip it completely, thinking Ill come back to it later when my brain is less full. Im sure many of you are the same. Im off looking at the new interesting thing in a heartbeat. Im sure someday I will develop laser sharp focus.

Tuesday, June 12, 2007 My Personalized Personal Work Learning Environmental World Tony Karrer asked in the comments on my PLE post yesterday , Im curious if you distinguish your learning environment (tools, skills, etc.) Its just a giant percolating coffee pot inside my brain these days. Most of what Im doing outside of work these days involves the care and feeding of two small people, ages 2 and 4. Its all relevant to the big picture that is me. Im a Google Girl.

Nevertheless, their voices are deeply etched in my brain, and I could have picked any of them out of a lineup if we were going by voice and not visual. When you dont meet someone in person, you still paint a picture of them in your mind. I had to keep staring at each of them hard as I replaced my old pictures. The bonus of so many of the social media tools we use is that our pictures are attached.

I usually lunge for the mute button, but often I still have to wait for the now-silent narration to finish before Im allowed to move on. Im with you. I think Im still hung up a bit on feeling the need to have some text representation on the screen to reinforce the audio and provide a point of reference -- even when theres an animation on the screen. Of course, this is all just my unfounded and profoundly biased opinion (Im very very visual).
