Notes from DevLearn and the Adobe Learning Summit

Steve Howard

It is what it is, and is for me and my fellow DevLearners first and foremost. The second was DevLearn, run by the eLearning Guild. Sometimes this was a bad thing – I would miss some good info because I was busy re-crafting a message. Someone is compiling a ‘tweet book’ of all the tweets posted about DevLearn that week. Guess, being a radio man at heart, he doesn’t enjoy the huge value that quality slides can bring.]. • Murdoch needs a new business model.

Make e-Learning work: Outcome learning (4): the developers perspective

Challenge to Learn

I think that e-Learning developers are a special kind of person: they want to deliver high quality work and they are (most of the time) very modest. You need to translate these objectives to content and assessments that connect the business need for knowledge and skills with the individual learning need of a learner. If you can’t define the objectives, don’t develop the course, it is probably not solving a real business issue.

Employee-generated Learning is now mainstream

Challenge to Learn

Competing conference contexts

Clark Quinn

Last week I was at the excellent-as-always DevLearn , and this week I attended the Virtual School Symposium (VSS; for the first time). DevLearn is a more business-focused and mature marketplace, and people are much more able to tolerate a discussion about barriers, opportunities, etc. Educators are more resistant to ‘business’, with their drivers being passion for helping kids, and often working under more government benediction and resources.

Make e-Learning work: Outcome learning

Challenge to Learn

Therefore I decided to work them out in more detail in a series of post and I will give presentations about this subject at the DevLearn conference in Las Vegas in November and the Online Educa in Berlin in December. It can help the e-Learning developer to: - make e-Learning of higher quality. align e-Learning more with business needs. Since I became CEO of easygenerator I wanted to have a clear vision and mission on what we do and why we do it.

Stop creating, selling, and buying garbage!

It’s seen as a nice to have , not as critical to the business. It’s tarted up, but there’s little guidance for quality. That’s fine as far as it goes, but who’s pushing the objectives to line up with business goals? Look, Apple’s products are fantastic technologically, but they get the premium placing by the quality of the experience, and that’s coming from the design.
