Who knew this was not a good business plan? Macromedia Dreamweaver came out with templates. Dreamweaver was the tool to use for web design and development. The moment I saw how many of my contemporaries were using Dreamweaver Templates to build courses, I knew the end for the complex tools were coming. Dinosaurs roamed.

Then Dreamweaver, a tool for designing web sites, rolled out templates for course building. For 2021, the awards cover the Top 10 only, Plus #1 systems in various verticals/industries, and for small business, small enterprise, enterprise, large enterprise, customer training/education (aka Extended Enterprise).

I’ve used a bunch of desktop authoring tools – Lectora, Dreamweaver, Authorware, Captivate, and Articulate to name a few. SCORM conformant. The business model they use is really one of added value. I haven’t really used a lot of web-based authoring tools though. Semi-complex branching. Flash templates.

If a RCAT vendor tells you they have been in business for over 10 years, they are somewhat misleading, since WBT courses really didn’t start to hit the mark until 2000 and then you have limited choices on how to build. Eventually, Macromedia Dreamweaver came into the picture. CourseLab – ADL SCORM certified, no less.
