I mean if you say you need “e-commerce for 500 users, certificates, ability to add users to groups for courses”, that would cover about 550 systems. I would estimate that there was a 60-40 split, still instructor led driven, but even a significant number of the ILT vendors were offering subsets or capabilities to turn their ILT into online via webinars or online courses.

While the learning cloud and extended enterprise cloud are purchased by folks, I still see the platform – assuming you get all the modules as a HCM. In my experience, small businesses (500 or less users) are the ideal audience for a low cost system. This does not mean that anyone who has more than 5,000 users should be a system in the low cost mode, but rather these systems are definitely suited to this business size. The data shows that what many vendors assume end users want is far from accurate. Too many vendors are focusing on talent/performance management as the next feature/component in their systems. This will become one of the biggest features in 2012 – especially with people wanting to create simulations without being an e-learning developer. Some vendors push heavily on PPT, implying that a great WBT is really a PPT converted to Flash. Over 98% of the LMS/LCMS/learning platform have at least one compliance standard, so why use a RCAT that doesn’t?

I’m tired of telling people that it is better to buy 3rd party courses through you even though they can get a better deal by going straight to the 3rd party vendor. #5 I explicitly told HSwidget in an e-mail not to call me, but rather send me an e-mail. What I found was an extensive group of people hungry for anything e-learning. Hungry to learn as much as they could and hungry to see what was in the space. My sense of it all, was that regardless of the location the buzz is all e-learning. I wasn’t surprised on the e-learning excitement. It is easy to use and once you learn it, easy to push out content. They are similar to what you see in your standard LMS, course content, learning paths, reporting – but it is not as robust (which is fine for some end users). One vendor with 750 users, priced out at nearly 24K a year; another close to 11.5K – thus depends on users is a factor. If you are an e-learning vendor exploring the SBM do not take them lightly, a few are slowly entering my 2nd trend. Social Learning and M-Learning.

With all these vendors talking about their solution and its capabilities on mobile devices, it should be easy to find an app for that. Regardless if the vendor is m-learning specific, content authoring tool, LMS, web conferencing or a hybrid. Nowadays more and more vendors (thankfully) are seeing the benefit of mobile devices. Thus they can advertise they offer mobile learning. Perhaps they even have a mobile learning feature within their system.
