The differences between learning in an e-business and learning in a social business

Jane Hart

Although the advent of e-technology in the late 1990s changed businesses into e-businesses, this was essentially about automating existing business thinking and practices. Although a “social business” is powered by new social technologies, it is not the technology itself that makes the difference, it’s not about layering social approaches on the old industrial age thinking, but a fresh, new mindset and approach to working and learning.

Social Learning is Voluntary; Collaboration Platforms are Enablers

ID Reflections

There are very few generative businesses like the ones mentioned above who see themselves as part of an ecosystem where cooperation and collaboration enables growth for all. Then comes the dichotomy of having an enterprise collaboration platform where no one is sharing, where there are no conversations happening, no debates and questions. Individuals will get their work done by talking to peers, reaching out to their network, and bringing their #pln and #pkm to work.

What Makes a MOOC a MOOC?

They are using various tools for PKM ( Personal Knowledge Management ) and taking onus of their own learning. Refer to Harold Jarche’ blog for a deeper understanding of PKM. L&D's New Hatrack

ID Reflections

In the light of these transformations and disruptions, It is glaringly evident that L&D departments can no longer function the way they used to, at least not if they want to be relevant and be a business partner to the organizations.
