I thought first around something like the Truth they don’t want you to know, then realized that some vendors would push back and say that isn’t true, which gets back to the original statement. Lately I’ve heard that two popular words are being used in the business lexicon – anecdotal being one. A conundrum.

Old-school LMS companies (like SumTotal , Plateau , Learn.com , GeoLearning and Certpoint ) were acquired by much larger talent and HR-suite providers like SAP/SuccessFactors , Infor , Oracle and IBM. With that kind of captive customer, why would a talent management LMS vendor even bother to improve its product? And that’s when it hit.

Once a darling of vendors who used it to show their demos, now? In fact, in 2019, I did not see one demo from a vendor on Adobe Connect. Personally a vendor can call their system whatever they want, but there are a few factoids to remember about micro-learning. Cumbersome? Not so much. You tell me, is that a good thing?

One competitor purchased a VLP as a key component, SAP purchased SuccessFactors, a recruiting system initially turned HCM, who had acquired Plateau, a strong but awful UI/UX LMS. SuccessFactors constantly stated they would invest heavily into Plateau and initially, vast improvement was to be found. Yes, a two-time nominee.

Oracle then followed suit by acquiring SuccessFactors who had acquired Plateau in the past. I’m sure the people who had purchased Plateau or even SuccessFactors Learning system were delighted to hear the news. “Training” sliding under HCM? They are a HCM. They purchased Outstart, a LMS.

What really bothers me more so, is when certain learning system vendors tell me they do not offer social or NexGen functionality because their clients either do not want it or because of security concerns by the client.
