As I have noted numerous times, if you listen to vendors, everyone loves their system, they have retention rates in the plus 90%, yet, somehow the number one thing they hear is that people are looking for a new system, they are unhappy with their current system. Answering your LMS Questions

How many of you have seen vendors respond to your questions? A: Virtually every LMS vendor out there in the marketplace provides these features. Examples: E-mail notification via SMS. Mobile learning – it might surprise you to know that 75-80% of all systems in the space, currently do not offer any type of mobile learning, the number goes up even higher for online/offline synch. Smart App for TV – One LMS vendor. A: Depends on the vendor.

Mobile Learning. LMSs – Finally vendors took notice. Sadly though many still are in the dark on true mobile learning – i.e. not accessing their platform via a mobile web browser. Authoring Tools – With only a small sample of vendors that are SaaS based, pickings are slim. Those who aren’t are either offering native apps with online/offline synch or performing the shell game via the mobile web browser and calling it mobile learning.

Unlimited portals. surveys/assessments, e-commerce, transcripts, ad-hoc reporting and the other standards in the industry (90/10). TinCan support with mobile learning, however no on/off synch. Mobile learning support, but no TinCan nor on/off synch.

Questions to Ask Ur Prospective LMS Vendor

If you are like the thousands of other people exploring the purchase of a learning management system, the key to success is asking the right questions. . For people who are working on certification, does your system provide e-mail reminders to end users whose certification is near expiration and thus they need to go into the system and complete it? What about e-mail reminders for the following (time frame) to renew? Go directly to the 3rd party vendor whose courses they are.

What always stuns me are vendors who state they know what their learners want, but in reality have no clue, because they themselves do not see the technology and its usage among the masses. E-Mail. The growing number of businesses leaving Microsoft Outlook to Internet e-mail is amazing. You don’t have to go to funkytown to see some feature sets that put the “WoW” back into learning. Built in E-mail that blocks viruses, spam plus you can send out of the LMS. Desktop sharing (appears with a few vendors). e-book publishing. Section 508 (still shocking at the lack of vendors that fail to offer this feature).

Ability to e-mail a group of people or an individual within the product – ideal for classroom, webinars or even admin to send specific notifications without having to sent it to everyone. Latest E-Learning Insight and News

There is a growing list of vendors, including small/mid size that are adding talent management components that match the Big Dog systems. A couple of vendors have added HRIS modules. It is interesting to note, that many of the vendors are targeting the SMB space, especially the small size (less than 500 employees) market. What is nice is there are still a significant number of vendors who have not added it. E-Learning 24/7.

Latest E-Learning Trends – Some good, some bad

After one quarter (for most companies) into the fiscal calendar year, it is time to see what the future holds in our space. I mean ever&# , from a senior executive at a mid to large size vendor that has been in the market for several years. Across the board, a large number of vendors (from small to large) saw increases in their quarter numbers. Especially, when vendors released their 2010 final numbers and saw big increases from the previous year. E-Learning 24/7.
