Captivate, Articulate, Lectora, and Camtasia are the big off-the-shelf authoring tools that seem to come up in a lot of job postings. If you have the budget for it, go to an elearning conference ( DevLearn and ASTD TechKnowledge are two of the biggies, but there are smaller more local conferences that might work for you).

Camtasia 8, Snag-it 1, ReviewLink (a fantastic product – but only for 10 courses? It comes with a “LMS” which is some analytics – similar to what is happening in the space (have to attend DevLearn to find out what that means. A desktop authoring tool that provides a wealth of features and additional software.

The newest version adds an adaptive learning capability, which I saw first hand at DevLearn – it was extremely impressive and extremely rare in this space. Built in audio, image and video tools, enables this to be a one stop service, thus eliminating the need to use Camtasia and alike. . Deadline component is equallly nice.

Grade: A #6 - Greater Domination by Leading Tool Vendors - Captivate, Articulate, Lectora, Camtasia Captivate 4 is going to be a great tool. Camtasia is good at screencasting. At DevLearn, I saw a demo of twitter being embedded inside Captivate as the basis of a social learning experience. Articulate has a great tool set.

I only got to attend two sessions when I was at DevLearn in San Jose and both happened to be about m-learning. In the end I went for Camtasia 5. Now I don't have a great passion for mobile devices, probably because - working from home - I spend a lot of time in one place. If m-learning is ever going to happen, now is the time.

Was great at DevLearn. And in the Rapid eLearning Tools space, I left out Camtasia which is great for screencasting. I put up a couple of screencasts that show how to use LinkedIn for Finding Expertise and Searching for Expertise - LinkedIn Answers. Twitter I'm still not sure what my Twitter Status will be. I use it a little bit.

Camtasia -Yep I use it, but it can be cumbersome, offers a lot, especially add-ons. You have to have Camtasia to buy it. A vendor did this at DevLearn, and then all those other items, like similar which are never similar appeared too. It’s good for the basics. The rest of their stuff? ” Never forget that.
