TechSmith Camtasia: Recording Effects

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by Kevin Siegel      When Camtasia developers need to add attention-grabbing visual affects to a software demonstration created using the Camtasia Recorder, the work is typically accomplished by editing the recording in Camtasia Studio. However, using Camtasia's Effects Toolbar, you can add several attention-grabbing visuals while you are recording your video. Start the Camtasia Recorder.

Camtasia Essentials: Organizing Project Files

eLearning Brothers

However, bins are not available in Camtasia 9, so you have to come up with alternatives. In this blog, I’ll give you three ideas on how to organize your work so that you can keep your head on straight when using Camtasia 9. Since Camtasia 9 doesn’t have an in-editor file system, you’ll want to use your computer’s File Explorer (or Finder for Mac) for these organizations. But it doesn’t help you keep your files organized once they’re in Camtasia.

TECHSMITH CAMTASIA: TREC vs. AVI

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

While recording a software demonstration using the Camtasia Recorder, you have two choices when it comes to the file format for your video capture: TREC and AVI. AVIs can be imported into the Camtasia Editor or other eLearning development tools and multimedia editors. As with AVI files, TRECs can contain audio and video and can be imported directly into the Camtasia Editor. eLearning TechSmith Camtasiaby Kevin Siegel, CTT, COTP.

TechSmith Camtasia: Major Upgrade Released

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by Kevin Siegel        It's been years in the making but TechSmith has finally updated Camtasia.   First and foremost, Camtasia for Windows (version 9) and the Macintosh (version 3) are now very similar allowing you to share projects across platforms. One common complaint from my students as I  teach Camtasia  is that the options such as Transitions, Audio Effects, etc. TechSmith Camtasia

Using Camtasia to Glue Your Learners to the Screen

eLearning Brothers

To do so, I’ll use the following video as an example, digging into my Camtasia project file to show you how each segment was done. Camtasia 9 has helped us by giving us loads of simple tools that can make boring bits like this way more visually exciting. I had a short clip of scrolling through the eLearning Brothers template library, brought it into Camtasia, and BAM. All I had to do was give it a border (Visual Effects > Border) and color that border orange.

TECHSMITH CAMTASIA: Cursor Smoothing: A Cure For the Over-Caffeinated

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

I was recording a series of clicks in a client's software using Camtasia Recorder. After importing the video in the Camtasia Editor and adding the video to the Timeline, I was dismayed to see that my mouse was all over the screen.   Under normal circumstances, a herky-jerky cursor in a recording requires a re-record (once the effects of the caffeine have worn off). Fortunately, the recently released Camtasia 2019 has a solution: Cursor Smoothing.

Camtasia Animation Features You Didn’t Know About

eLearning Brothers

Among the many new and exciting features in Camtasia 9, one of my favorites is the expansive pre-built animations that are ready for us to use. If you used Camtasia Studio 8, you’re already familiar with the thirty transitions that are built into Camtasia. These include different effects such as Fade, Ripple, Stretch, and Radial wipe. What Camtasia 9 has brought to the table is a new user interface that makes finding the right set of transitions quick and easy.

TechSmith Camtasia Studio 8: A Stitch in Time

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by Kevin Siegel        If you select portions of a video clip on the Camtasia Studio Timeline and cut, you have historically ended up with multiple clips. At that point, it's possible to drag the split portions on the Timeline as needed or apply Visual effects. What you cannot do with multiple clips is apply an effect that spans multiple splits. I've always found that shortcoming to be an annoyance when working with Camtasia.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Camtasia Library
