About two weeks ago Captivate 10, now labeled Captivate 2017 was released. When using the Submit All feature for a quiz, up till now it was not possible to localize this popup dialog box (style can be changed using the Object Style Manager): In Captivate 2017, the dialog box whidh appears when you click the option ‘Submit All Messages in Quiz, Preferences has all you need to localize everything. In previous versions this dialog box had only 3 items.

Overall, Captivate 6 is still the same Captivate you know (and hopefully love). Captivate 6 is continuing to improve its PowerPoint capabilities. We are using CP9, updated to most recent version, trying to publish software simulations in HTML5 output only. These are simulations for clients to complete on desktop devices, not mobile. Click Boxes are not included in quiz reporting for most slides. Posts about Text Entry Boxes in my blog and were written for older versions. Time to translate everything to the most recent version ( today) and for HTML output because there are minor differences. A score attached to the objet (default = 1pt) can be added to the total quiz score. In Captivate tthe only other ways to allow learners to put in text is by using the Notes or the Scrolling Text Interactions. That is not possible with the default FIB quiz slide.

I really like what Ted-Ed is doing by “flipping” videos for educational purposes, however I can’t help but think how much better the learning experience would be if the quiz was embedded in the video itself within context, instead of having to watch the video first before taking the quiz, which is how things work today. Whenever a comparison of eLearning authoring tools is published, Captivate still is considered to be the best tool for creation of software tutorials. That has been indeed the primary goal when Captivate was released many years ago. I have been choosing it many years ago (with version 1) for that feature as well. There are many alternatives to Captivate’s Video Demo. I think about merging with 360 slides, real quiz slides, adding links to other assets etc.

Use Guides for your Fluid Boxes Design!

If you do follow me since a while, you are aware of the fact that I am a big fan of the Rulers and Guides which appeared with version 9.0.1. All the included themes in Captivate have Fluid Boxes on the master slides (the ‘virgin’ Blank theme has them only on the quiz/score masters). Intro. They have a lot in common with the same feature in other Adobe applications (Illustrator, Photoshop to mention two).

Studio ’13 is a very nice upgrade that features new Engage templates, additional quiz questions (including drag-and-drop), feedback layers, HTML5 publishing, characters, and a unified player, among other things. ( The new version can publish to Flash, HTML5, and the Articulate Mobile Player, much like Storyline. Because of that, I’m going to put it ahead of Captivate, since Captivate still has a decent list of features that don’t work in HTML5. Software Simulations.

Each theme packaged with Captivate has a Theme Colors palette which is labeled with the same name as the theme. In the screenshot you see one of Captivate’s default themes, using several bluish colors (first three in the palette). A responsive theme with Breakpoint views is not included with Captivate.
