I want to stress that nearly every LMS/LCMS you purchase will include customization features for you and your company and/or identify that you can customize in your system – i.e. turn on/off options, change text headers, labels, etc. Open Source LMSs. E-Learning 24/7. – this can be a challenge.

In 2010, the RCAT market continued its upswing and nothing indicates to me it will be changing anytime soon. Open Source Product of the Year (i.e. Offers optional screen recording program ($99). These should be considered standards for vendors in this space in 2011 or at least those who want a competitive edge.

I dont do any programming. I think my dinosaur status as an instructional designer stems from the fact that Ive always worked for e-Learning vendors where the programming, graphics, and ID are distinct, separate job roles. I think Im somewhat of an anomaly in the field. I dont build courses.

But, the reason I constantly bash this into e-learning vendors heads is they just DON’T GET IT. Integrated e-mail. Again, open source programs exist today that you can use as a feature within your LMS. No need to have multiple windows open. You want to change that. Yes, I own one.

Theres nothing in ADDIE about learning objects or the presentation of information. Most e-Learning vendors mention ADDIE or some form thereof on their websites as if it was a real science about creating effective learning. I dont think ADDIE and Gagne are really in the same class. The note of interest is that it is occurring with all size of vendors, albeit the charge is being led by mid size vendors. Not all of the big dog vendors have entered this space, despite it being a huge revenue opportunity. That is expected to change. While some vendors offer over 100 canned reports, may do not.

The reason Cornerstone suffered losses in 2010, was largely caused by a change in fair value of preferred stock warrant liabilities. For other vendors in the space, the revenue range most fall into has slightly increased, so from 3-8M in revenue, the numbers are showing 3-10M in revenue. The tablets are changing that.
