Examples of eLearning 2.0

Clark Quinn

During my presentation last Thursday that was an introduction to eLearning 2.0 as part of an online event for the eLearningGuild, I mentioned a few common ways that I've seen eLearning 2.0 I always suggest people shouldn't try to come up with a big eLearning 2.0

eLearning 2.0 - I'm tring to DO IT

Tony Karrer

I just saw this post - eLearning 2.0 - I'm tring to DO IT - that's a response to my post eLearning 2.0 - Go DO IT. I hate to generalize, but the thing that seems to be missing from most of my conversations with classroom teachers and administrators is a willingness to even try to re-envision their own learning , not just their students. I got back from the conference and started this blogging and not only that but I'm keeping it up.

Schlenker goes on to tie elearning 2.0 to informal learning to learning 2.0 to web 2.0, So now we are left with the impression that we are spending all of our resources on the puny 10% to 20% percent of formal learning while we should be spending it on the 80% to 90% of elearning 2.0/informal learning/learning 2.0. Corporate Learning Laggards?

Tony Karrer

Last week I moderated a Technology Council event on Web 2.0 What's interesting in eLearning is that it used to be that corporations were way out in front of what was happening in the consumer space and even farther ahead of what I saw in academia. And now as things begin to transition to eLearning 2.0 Individual instructors are able to incorporate blogs and wikis into their classroom experiences much more readily than in the corporate land.

Training Design

Tony Karrer

Back in 1987, the dominant tool was classroom delivery and thus, we primarily created training and train-the-trainer materials. Yes, we theoretically had this back in 1987 with paper-based materials, but we looked at the CD as a substitute for classroom instruction. Virtual classroom, web-based training (WBT), rapidly created eLearning, lots of online reference tools such as help, cheat sheets, online manuals. I don't force my twin son to learn French from his equally poor French-speaking brother, and am now convinced that much of what passes for groupwork in primary and secondary school classrooms is just chaos.

Corporate Training

Tony Karrer

Courseware and Broader eLearning Jay's post eLearning is not the Answer : Corporations are flocking to eLearning for all the wrong reasons. This sort of fanciful thinking tripped up eLearning ten years ago. Poorly implemented eLearning is a more expensive alternative to doing nothing at all, and often the results would be the same. If we did nothing at all, what would the result be as compared to what we do when we provide some bad eLearning?

Business of Learning

Tony Karrer

While the market is tough right now, there are some people who believe that learning businesses who sell classroom, virtual classroom and courseware training will rebound once the economy rebounds. There are pretty important question here to ask about your learning business: Will there be demand for our training products (classroom, virtual classroom, eLearning)? The safe bet is for them to build things that are closer to existing eLearning solutions.
