MOOCs: Flipping the Corporate Classroom

Your Training Edge

So why does so much of corporate training still involve an instructor flipping through a seemingly endless PowerPoint slide deck? It is perhaps no coincidence that the MOOC explosion has occurred side-by-side with a rise in popularity of the “flipped classroom” model, in which the traditional method of classroom delivery is flipped on its head. In a traditional classroom, the instructor lectures during class time and then sends the students home with homework.

Games, Gamification in a Virtual Classroom Environment

Kapp Notes

Gamification in the virtual classroom is still in its infancy. Currently, virtual classroom instructors often use workarounds to apply gamification techniques since many virtual classroom software packages don’t have game or gamification elements. Another way we have used technology for gamification within a virtual classroom or a webinar is to use PollEverywhere and have the learners open a web window and participate in that fashion.

I Believe that Learning is Inherently Social

Tom Spiglanin

It may have been done alone or with others, but the social connection was still strong: teachers directed and facilitated the learning, and we often shared answers or talked about homework with peers. This is not to say that everything we know or can do was learned socially. But then, learning is an inherently social activity. ” Instructor-led sessions conveyed knowledge from “experts” and were supported by slides. “Piaget’s social theory.”

Moving From the Classroom to the Computer

Yardstick

I’ve been a learner in both classroom and computer environments. That might seem like a pretty obvious statement but the reality is that there is a lot of eLearning out there that attempts to take a course that has been taught in the classroom and put it online as-is. This often involves putting an amazing instructor’s presentation slides online, maybe even with a recording of said amazing instructor delivering their lecture. Learning can be social.

6 Questions to Ask When Demoing Virtual Classroom Software

MeetingOne on eLearning

The time has come to move your training programs forward into an interactive virtual classroom. But the big question is, what virtual classroom software is right for your goals? Seeing the application in action is arguably the most critical part of selecting a virtual classroom software. For GoTo, polls are populated in slides.

The differences between learning in an e-business and learning in a social business

Jane Hart

In my recent webinar I shared a slide that showed the 5 stages of workplace learning. Although a “social business” is powered by new social technologies, it is not the technology itself that makes the difference, it’s not about layering social approaches on the old industrial age thinking, but a fresh, new mindset and approach to working and learning. So whilst e-business is about automation, social business is about innovation. Classroom.

The Flipped Learning Revolution — Coming to a Brain Near You?

Dashe & Thomson

One of the concepts in training that has taken the biggest strides this year has been that of the “flipped classroom.” My colleague Jon Matejcek first covered it back in March in his article “ Online Academy Helps to Keep Lectures Where They Belong: Out of the Classroom.” Essentially, the idea is to upend the traditional teaching model of classroom lecture followed by personal practice at home.

In a recent post , I was trying to communicate the benefits of social learning: the additional processing that occurs while negotiating a shared understanding. As this was to be the representation on a slide talking about social learning, I was forced to come up with another way to communicate the concept. How Will Covid-19 Affect the Future of Online Education?

Just as classrooms need to be prepared to move online when necessary, the online learning of the future can benefit from in-person networking events and study groups.
