At the time of writing this blog, over half the respondents have chosen “No”. Assuming they are all L&D professionals, the extrapolation means most of us don’t think the 70:20:10 model is relevant to our work. So here’s my list of things to avoid. Of course, when they’re done, do them right! There are other causes of performance problems in organizations besides skill gaps. One of the wrong ways to do courses is to get information from SMEs and present it to the learners (whether or not you add a knowledge test). And information without practice – applying it to problems in context – doesn’t lead to new skills. Don’t think you need to control learning.
